There were plenty of disappointed Ireland players after last night’s game against South Africa, but there was at least one Irish-based player that was thrilled with how the fixture at the Aviva Stadium played out.
Leinster’s RG Snyman would come off the bench in Dublin to win his 50th cap for the Springboks, playing a key role in his side’s victory. The 30-year old has become an increasingly important part of Rassie Erasmus’ side in recent years, especially after recovering from the serious injury issues he suffered during his time with Munster.
With Snyman being based in Ireland, he got a slightly different welcome than the rest of the South African players when making his way onto the pitch.

RG Snyman received a warm welcome from the Lansdowne Road faithful when coming on during the second half of yesterday’s game.
Speaking after the game, the South African admitted that it was something he would not quickly forget, also capping off the landmark occasion of his 50th cap with a big win in Dublin.
Knowing a lot of guys on the other side, I knew there was a little bit extra going into every bit of contact.
Even just the week, it’s obviously quite an emotional week and, yeah, it was a special game for me and for all of us getting the opportunity playing in the Aviva…
It’s definitely a game I’ll cherish forever. Especially running out in front of everyone. I wasn’t sure what the reception would be like, but it was a goosebump moment for me…
It’s obviously a special occasion for me but the team comes first, so it’s all about what you can do for the team. I’m running out of English here, I can’t think of the word, but it’s more just giving rather than thinking about yourself.
RG Snyman has proven to be an exceptionally popular player among Leinster supporters since joining the province.
The South African is due to return to club action over the coming weeks, with Leinster set to open their Champions Cup campaign with a game against Harlequins on December 6th.
