Lewis Capaldi’s debut in Portugal as a solo artist comes eight years after he opened for Sam Smith in Lisbon in May 2018, even before releasing the single “Someone You Loved” in November of that year, which became the most streamed song of all time in the United Kingdom.
According to the promoter MOT – Memories of Tomorrow, the 29-year-old musician will give an “exclusive sunset concert” on the beach of Figueira da Foz, on the coast of the Coimbra district, the day after the sold-out show by fellow British artist Sting.
MOT said that the two concerts, promoted in partnership with Live Nation, “reinforce the status of the city” in the Central region “as one of the leading musical destinations in Portugal”.
“We managed to find a destination in Portugal capable of hosting major events, outside the major centres. And that destination, Figueira da Foz, is being very well regarded abroad by artists, for what differentiates it: a beach, by the sea, in Central Portugal, is a great added value,” argued Tiago Castelo Branco, general director of MOT.
“Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent,” his first album of original material, “catapulted Lewis Capaldi from bedroom musician to global phenomenon” in 2019, becoming the best-selling album in the UK that year and in 2020, the promoter highlighted.
According to MOT, in addition to “Someone You Loved,” hits like “Before You Go,” “Hold Me While You Wait,” “Forget Me,” and “Wish You the Best” reached the top of the charts “in more than 30 countries and today total more than 30 billion streams worldwide.”
After selling out a UK arena tour with 200,000 tickets, Lewis Capaldi has another 12 sold-out dates in New Zealand, Australia and the United Arab Emirates running until early 2026 and has announced a new tour, also partially sold out, starting in April, with 26 dates in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Ireland, which includes a show in Portugal on July 18th.
Tickets for the Figueira da Foz show will go on sale on Friday, priced at €60 and €120.
