StartUp, the gritty crime drama starring Martin Freeman and Adam Brody, has landed a new streaming home in the UK. With “super high” stakes and plenty of tension, this “hidden gem” is one you won’t want to miss.

The series is set in a world where GenCoin, a “brilliant yet controversial” digital currency, comes into fruition. The action follows several characters, ranging from law enforcement agents to workers in the technology sector, in an evolving world.

Originally released on now-defunct streaming service Crackle in 2016, StartUp ran for three seasons before its conclusion in 2018, but it’s landed a new home in the UK after all 30 episodes have been made available on ITVX.

In addition to Brody and Freeman, the latter of whom only appeared in the first two seasons, the cast for the series includes Edi Gathegi, Otmara Marrero, Ron Perlman, Addison Timlin and Mira Sorvino.

Though not widely reviewed by professional critics, the crime drama has been lauded by general audiences on IMDb, where it currently has an impressive user rating of 7.8 out of 10 from 31,000 reviews.

“This series is just something unlike any other show… I’ve never felt so immersed into a show before. Went through all 3 seasons in about 2 days, it was that good,” wrote one fan as they asked for a fourth season.

“If you like Billions, Ozark and Silicon Valley you will most likely love this one. For some reason this series is very little promoted and it seems like lots of people doesn’t know about it (I stumbled on it),” wrote another viewer as they dubbed it a “hidden gem”.

Another user was also full of praise, writing: “The threats are very real. The stakes are super high. Choices affect multiple characters. And harsh, harsh scenes allow for tremendous acting opportunities. The cast is up for it! Incredible, breathtaking scenes.”

“Wow! This show is so amazingly good! I wish more people knew about it… I really like the grittiness of it and how they show the juxtaposition of cultures/rich/poor all within Miami,” opined another viewer.

While StartUp is now streaming on ITVX, Freeman will soon be seen in Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials, a mystery period drama from Netflix which is based on the author’s classic 1929 novel.
