All eyes have been on Leonardo DiCaprio as of late, thanks to his appearance in Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another. Although the film may have fallen flat with some viewers, others loved it and are scrambling through various streamers to find more DiCaprio content where that came from. For their fix, fans are turning to Paramount+, where the actor’s celebrated 2015 film, The Revenant, is currently gathering eyeballs from around the globe, making it the seventh most-watched film on the streamer’s worldwide Top 10 chart. With company like Top Gun: Maverick and Gladiator II, the Alejandro González Iñárritu-helmed Western is enjoying a resurgence a full decade since it thrilled audiences and landed DiCaprio his first and only Academy Award win.

Blending fact with fiction, The Revenant tells the story of real-life hardened frontiersman, Hugh Glass, who spent his life exploring North America. Although much of Glass’ life would have made for a perfect cinematic experience, the film explores an especially harrowing chapter that sees him being mauled by a grizzly bear and left for dead by his companions. Joining DiCaprio in the at times hard-to-watch film is a lineup of performers that includes Tom Hardy (Peaky Blinders), Will Poulter (The Maze Runner), Domhnall Gleeson (The Paper), Forrest Goodluck (Pet Sematary: Bloodlines), and more.

With a critics’ rating of 78% on Rotten Tomatoes, The Revenant is one of the star’s highest rated films, right up there with The Wolf of Wall Street, Marvin’s Room, and Catch Me If You Can, which takes the cake with a near-perfect critics’ score of 96%. At the box office, the movie soared beyond expectations, earning a staggering $533 million against its $135 million production budget. As far as DiCaprio’s lifetime global haul is concerned, his historical foray into the wilderness as the dogged survivalist is his third-highest earning, clocking in behind Christopher Nolan’s mind-bending sci-fi flick, Inception, and James Cameron’s historical romantic drama, Titanic.

Leonardo DiCaprio Brings Home an Oscar With ‘The Revenant’

After decades in the industry, DiCaprio landed his first Academy Award win with The Revenant, marking a milestone in his career. For years, he took on difficult, detailed, and layered roles in movies like What’s Eating Gilbert Grape and The Aviator, nabbing four Oscar nominations for Best Actor, but only with his work in the 2015 Western survival film did he go home with the trophy. The movie also saw Iñárritu walk away with the honor of Best Director, as well as Emmanuel Lubezki for Best Cinematography. In all, the film was nominated for an impressive 12 nominations at that year’s Academy Awards.

The Revenant is now streaming on Paramount+.
