Man United to win
Manchester United have undoubtedly improved this season after an incredibly testing finish to their campaign under Ruben Amorim last season, but they still have a long way to go before they can be counted as bona fide European contenders.
United are unbeaten in five league games, taking 11 points, while they have come through what was arguably the most difficult start to the season of any Premier League team relatively unscathed.
Amorim’s side have faced all of the Big Six in their first 11 games of the season and could still end the weekend in the top four.
On Monday night, they face an Everton side that has also improved this season, taking 15 points from their opening 11 games.
Everton also possess the opportunity to leapfrog Liverpool in the league table with a victory on Monday night and will look to end a 12-year winless streak at Old Trafford in the process.
David Moyes’s side have been poor on the road this season, however, taking just four points from their five away games to date, with their only away victory coming in a 3-2 win at Championship-bound Wolves.
United have won four league games on the spin a Old Trafford and should continue that run on Monday.
Both teams to score, yes
Amorim has overseen an undoubted improvement in United’s attack, with the Red Devils scoring a relatively impressive 19 goals in their opening 11 games.
There is still a mountain of work to be done at the other end of the pitch, however. United have conceded 18 goals in those same 11 games and have kept just a solitary clean sheet so far this season.
They have conceded twice in each of their last three games and boast a worse defensive record than 11 of the other 19 Premier League clubs, including Everton.
The Toffees have found goals much harder to come by and are without a goal at Old Trafford since October 2021, but they will be confident of finding a way past Senne Lammens on Monday.
Amad Diallo to score
Amad Diallo endured a difficult start to the season after providing such an exciting campaign last season.
However, there were signs before the international break that the Ivorian winger-come-wing-back is beginning to hit top form.
He scored a sensational equaliser at Nottingham Forest at the beginning of the month and was inches away from snatching victory for United deep in stoppage time at the City Ground, while he provided an assist for Bryan Mbuemo in the 2-2 draw at Tottenham two weeks ago.
With Benjamin Sesko ruled out through injury, Amad could yet feature in United’s attacking trio with Mbuemo serving as an auxiliary striker.
He provided two assists against the Toffees in this fixture last season and could easily find himself amongst the goals this time around.
Team to receive the most cards: Everton
United and Everton are night and day when it comes to discipline this season.
After 11 games, United boast the second-best disciplinary record in the league with 12 bookings and a single red card.
Everton, on the other hand, boast the fourth-worst record in the league with 26 bookings after 11 games, picking up double the number of cards as United.
United’s average of 9.4 fouls per game is also the second-lowest in the Premier League, while Everton’s average of 10.7 is only the ninth-worst in the league, though still considerably worse than United’s.
It is hardly a surprise Everton concede so many fouls when they average just 44.8% of the ball – the sixth-lowest average in the league. They are sure to be without the ball for large parts of Monday’s encounter and, by extension, are more likely to commit fouls and pick up cards.
