11 biodiversity projects in Clare are set to share an almost €100,000 Government funding allocation.

The money has been awarded under the the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage’s Local Biodiversity Action Fund.

The scheme was established in 2018 to assist local authorities with implementing actions in support of biodiversity.

A total of 11 projects in Clare have been awarded funding under this year’s round of the initiative, with the county’s allocation coming to €96,273.

A wetlands survey has taken the lion’s share of the funding with €19,975 apportioned for this purpose while an invasive alien plant species survey has been granted €17,000.

A project entitled ‘Return to Nature – Clare Church Biodiversity Initiative’, which aims to involve various community members in biodiversity actions, has been given €14,044.

An initiative attempting to build a “strategic marine alliance” in Liscannor Bay has been funded to the tune of €10,664 while an Ennis circuitscape study and an invasive alien species treatment project in Killaloe have each received €8,500.
