Megan Moroney revealed she put her vacation plans on hold when Ed Sheeran called her

In an interview for PEOPLE Stylewatch’s digital holiday cover, the country star spoke about how she canceled her vacation plans in March so she could perform with the pop star in Nashville

“He’s just so down to earth, kind, and talented,” Moroney says of Sheeran

When Ed Sheeran calls, Megan Moroney not only answers, but changes her vacation.

The country star, 28, tells PEOPLE Stylewatch that a call from the pop star, 34, in March made her change her plans.

“He wanted me to play the Bluebird Cafe with him in Nashville, and I thought it was a joke,” says Moroney.

According to the “6 Months Later” singer, she was supposed to go on vacation that weekend.

“I ended up canceling the vacation, because I’m like, ‘When Ed Sheeran calls and wants you to play a show with him, you drop everything,'” Moroney recalls.

She ended up performing at the Bluebird Cafe with Sheeran, where he hosted a writers’ round. At the time, she debuted her (now) latest single “Beautiful Things,” per Rolling Stone.

Moroney left that gig an even bigger fan of the “Sapphire” artist.

“He’s just so down to earth, kind and talented, and he was talking to me about how his kids [Lyra Antarctica, 5, and Jupiter, 3] and his wife [Cherry Seaborn] are big fans [of mine],” says the “No Caller ID” artist.

Because of that, the musical duo have kept in touch.

“We’d email each other and send each other songs back and forth, so it’s been really cool to get to know him a little bit,” says Moroney. “He’s just so talented.”

The night before her PEOPLE StyleWatch holiday cover shoot in October, the pair even reunited for a surprise pop-up show in Brooklyn.

“It’s just really cool to see someone like him, a global superstar, still care about songwriters,” says Moroney.

According to the “Man on the Moon” musician, the pair have even been trying to find a way to collaborate.

“I think when the time is right and the song is right, it’ll happen, because I’m such a fan of his, and I’m sure his kids would appreciate us having a song together, but it’s just got to be the right song,” says Moroney.

Moroney is set to release her new album Cloud 9 on Feb. 20.
