Actress Aparna Balamurali has spoken candidly about the body-shaming remarks she has faced over the years, sharing how she gradually learned to rise above them.

In a recent interview with Saina South Plus, the actress said many people often seemed more curious about her weight than her work.

“There are a lot of people who are interested in seeing whether I have become fat or slimmer. They are also keen to ask, ‘What did you do?’ But now I am like—I don’t care. It took me a long time to change my mindset,” Aparna said.

She recalled how, in the beginning, such comments would deeply affect her. “Initially, I was very conscious about what I did and how I looked—whether in interviews or outside,” she said. “Once, I was at an airport after a long journey, picking up my luggage, when a random uncle passed a remark: ‘Hi, you have become fat.’ I just stood there staring at him as he walked past casually without saying anything else. I was shocked.”

Aparna said incidents like these were initially very hard to deal with. “When many such things happened, it was very difficult for me at first. But over time, I overcame it—it just became saturated,” she added.

The actress will soon be seen in Mirage, a psychological thriller directed by Jeethu Joseph. The film, co-written by Srinivasan Abrol and based on a story by Aparna R. Tarakad, features Asif Ali alongside Aparna in the lead roles. The film brings Asif Ali and Aparna Balamurali back together after their 2024 superhit Kishkindha Kaandam, which won widespread critical acclaim and box-office success.

Mirage is produced by Jatin M. Sethi under Naad Studios, along with Mukesh R. Mehta and C. V. Sarathi of E4 Experiments, in association with Seven 1 Seven Productions and Bedtime Stories. Satheesh Kurup handles cinematography, Vinayakh is the editor, and Vishnu Shyam has composed the music and background score.
