EastEnders spoilers follow.
EastEnders aired two new twists in tonight’s episode (11 September) as Jonno had a shock heart attack, and Callum and Johnny confessed their ongoing feelings for each other.
Jonno recently made a surprise return to the Square after leaving almost six years ago, having cruelly disowned his son for coming out as gay.

In tonight’s episode, Callum meets Phil in the market where he warns him not to trust Jonno’s intentions after returning to his life unexpectedly. Callum decides he’s going to give him one last chance, and Johnny offers to go with him.

Callum later meets Jonno at the flat, and things get off to a promising start as Jonno says he’s proud of his son’s career as a detective. But Callum calls his dad out on his previous behaviour, asking him if he still won’t accept his sexuality, with Jonno deflecting the question.
Jonno says he’s nervous as he has to say something, revealing to Callum that he’s dying and can no longer work because of his health. He also says he needs money for legal fees after being arrested by Callum.
He also doubles down on his story that his friend made the homophobic comments, not him.

Callum soon realises that Jonno is asking him for cash. However, when Callum refuses to help, Jonno’s true colours come to the fore as he starts an argument and accuses his son of thinking he’s “better than him”.
Callum orders Jonno to leave, but the latter suddenly collapses and suffers a heart attack. His son rushes to find doctor Anthony and call an ambulance, while Johnny stays alone with Jonno. Callum’s father tells Johnny that he has a message for his son.
In his last breath, he disowns Callum, saying that he is “ashamed of him” as Johnny looks over him in shock.

After watching his dad’s body being taken away in an ambulance, a distraught Callum returns home to find Johnny waiting for him.
In shock, he asks Johnny if his dad had any last words. Caught between hurting Callum with the truth or lying, Johnny chooses to lie. He tells him that his dad asked for forgiveness and that he loved him.
Callum looks relieved before the two kiss and confess their feelings to one another – but can Johnny keep up the lie? Or will Callum find out the truth eventually?
EastEnders airs on Mondays – Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
