Chelsea secured an impressive victory over Barcelona on Tuesday evening, with perhaps the most pleasing aspect of the performance being the performances of some of their young players in the game.

Brazilian wonderkid Estevao grabbed the headlines after his stunning goal, but another summer signing also found the back of the net in the game. Liam Delap would score his first goal at Stamford Bridge on the night, wrapping up the three points for the home side in the process.

The 22-year old has faced some obstacles early in his Chelsea career, suffering an injury at the start of the season that would rule him out for a number of weeks. However, he will now be hoping to make a big impact at the club over the remainder of the campaign.

Son Of Former Ireland Star Blames His Father For His Bizarre Accent

Liam Delap is the son of former Ireland international Rory Delap, meaning the striker is eligible to play for the Boys in Green. However, he has remained steadfast in his commitment to England up to this point and will likely be aiming to break into Thomas Tuchel’s squad ahead of next summer’s World Cup.

While he may not end up following his father’s path in international football, he does blame him for one aspect of his personality.

While appearing on CBS Sports after last night’s game, it was pointed out by Micah Richards that Liam Delap had a rather odd accent. The forward put them blame for that down to Rory, whose career in professional football was the family move around a number of time during his youth.

“That’s why I came to this club, for incredible moments like this.”

Richards: Your accent, it sounds a little bit south, a little bit north. Where is that accent from? I know your dad, but what’s going on?

Delap: Blame him, blame him. He’s moved me about too much!

I don’t know, it’s a mix of everything. I moved about with him, grew up in Manchester, it’s all over really to be fair. I don’t really know what it is.

Fair enough.

Rory Delap has moved into coaching circles since his retirement from playing, most recently being part of Robbie Keane’s staff at both Maccabi Tel Aviv and Ferencvaros.
