The Strangers: Chapter 3 finally gets an official release date alongside its first pulse-pounding trailer. The film will mark the end of the trilogy.
The official trailer for The Strangers: Chapter 3 starring Madelaine Petsch has been released, giving audiences their first look at the final chapter of Maya’s ongoing battle against the series’ eponymous band of serial killers. The Strangers: Chapter 3 is now set to slash its way into theaters everywhere on Jan. 6, 2026. Readers can check out the trailer for themselves below.
The short teaser shows Maya standing in a church, all bloody. As she makes her way further, Gabriel Basso’s Gregory stands in the door. “You look like you’ve been through hell,” he says.
“I know where they are,” Maya says as she hides from the terrifying Strangers.
The third entry’s official description teases, “In the final film of The Strangers trilogy, Maya (Madelaine Petsch) faces the masked killers one last time in a brutal, full-circle reckoning of survival and revenge.”
The Strangers: Chapter 3 will be the fifth film in the series that began with 2008’s The Strangers by writer and director Bryan Bertino. The original film was followed in 2018 by The Strangers: Prey at Night, which was directed by Johannes Roberts from a screenplay co-written by Bertino and Ben Ketai.
In 2024, the first of director Renny Harlin’s new The Strangers trilogy was released, introducing audiences to Petsch’s Maya and her ill-fated boyfriend, Ryan (portrayed by Froy Gutierrez), who become the eponymous killers’ latest targets. While the first film charted the initial attack on Ryan and Maya, the second saw them track Maya to the hospital where she was taken afterward, all while giving audiences brief glimpses into the Strangers’ own origins.
Despite Poor Reviews, The Strangers Franchise Was a Commercial Success

Lionsgate
Although The Strangers: Chapter 2 was a financial success, bringing in more than $21.8 million at the box office against a budget of only $8.5 million (which all three films shared as they were shot concurrently), the film failed to impress critics. As of the time of writing, The Strangers: Chapter 2 holds an abysmal 15% “rotten” rating via review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, as averaged across 73 critical reviews. Audiences gave the film a more encouraging, yet negative 55% score.
Following the film’s release, Petsch responded to the negative response that The Strangers: Chapter 2 received, noting that “You kind of can’t avoid them on social media. It’s going to show up on my ‘For You’ page on TikTok, or my producer’s going to send it to me. It is what it is. At the end of the day, what’s most important is that I’m proud of my performance. That’s literally the only thing I can control.”
The Strangers: Chapter 3 premieres in theaters on Jan. 6, 2026.
