DreamWorks Animation is reviving the fan-favorite franchise Shrek with a new addition, Shrek 5, and they are not slowing down when it comes to making their star-studded cast even richer, as they have found SNL and Superman stars to voice Shrek and Fiona’s sons. Franchise stars Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz are returning for the sequel.

It was previously confirmed that Zendaya will be the voice of Felicia, Shrek and Fiona’s daughter, with the release of the Shrek 5 teaser trailer. Now, it has been announced that the other two ogre triplets, Fergus and Farkle, will be voiced by SNL’s Marcello Hernández and Superman’s Skyler Gisondo, joining what is likely an extensive A-list cast.

The fifth movie in the mainline Shrek series will arrive in theaters on June 30, 2027, 17 years after Shrek Forever After. In the intervening time, the franchise has expanded with two spinoffs, both led by Antonio Banderas, 2011’s Puss in Boots and 2022’s Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, the latter being particularly critically acclaimed for its story and stylized animation.

Shrek and Fiona’s triplets are born at the end of Shrek the Third, when the couple is finally able to leave Far Far Away after finding a new heir to inherit the throne from Fiona’s father. The triplets appear (still as infants) in Shrek Forever After, when Shrek is in the midst of a midlife crisis because of the demands of being a parent.

The Shrek 5 teaser also revealed that Shrek and Fiona’s children have grown up by the time of the sequel, as Felicia appears as a young adult. The plot of Shrek 5 is still being kept under wraps, leaving fans to speculate how it could tie into Puss in Boots: The Last Wish or bring back Far Far Away’s established residents.

Skyler Gisondo is a rising star known for Booksmart and Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, and is the budding DCU’s Jimmy Olsen. He has voice acting experience from Netflix’s middling animated series Haunted Hotel (giving a strong individual performance), and will star as a next-generation character in the upcoming sequel Focker In-Law alongside Wicked’s Ariana Grande.

Marcello Hernández is primarily a Saturday Night Live star and TV personality, but also recently appeared in Happy Gilmore 2, with upcoming projects The Angry Birds Movie 3 and 72 Hours. With the announcement of these two actors, Shrek 5 has completed the central next generation trio who will certainly be vital to the direction the new story goes.
