The next Sorcerer Supreme of the Marvel Universe already has more than one impossibly powerful adversary to worry about.
Marvel Comics’ February solicits have just given fans an idea of what to expect when Wanda Maximoff, better known as the Scarlet Witch, finally steps into her new role as the Sorcerer Supreme of Earth. The new Sorcerer Supreme series, written by the critically acclaimed Steve Orlando and illustrated by all-star artist Bernard Chang, will pit Wanda against not just the expected turmoils that come with the titular mantle, but the Queen of Limbo herself, Madelyne Pryor, and the Vishanti’s own new Sorcerer Supreme, Agatha Harkness, both of whom will take center stage in Sorcerer Supreme #3.

The official solicit synopsis for Sorcerer Supreme #3 from Marvel Comics reads, “Wanda Maximoff has been many things, a mother, an Avenger and the Scarlet Witch. But in the wake of Victor Von Doom’s fall, Wanda has claimed a new title: Sorcerer Supreme of Earth. The Vishanti, unwilling to validate Wanda’s claim, have anointed their own Sorcerer Supreme: Agatha Harkness. After a fiery battle with her former mentor, Wanda wakes up in Limbo where nothing is as it seems. But if she’s going to escape, she must first defeat its ruler… MADDIE PRYOR!”
The events of the upcoming Sorcerer Supreme series follow in the wake of Marvel Comics’ recently concluded One World Under Doom, which saw Doctor Doom lay claim to the entire world as its self-proclaimed supreme leader. While Doom’s apparent victory was swift, the build-up to it was months, if not years, in the making. Among the many stepping stones towards Doom’s reign was his claiming of the mantle of Sorcerer Supreme, which he forced Doctor Strange to give up during the vampiric takeover seen in 2024’s Blood Hunt.
While the Scarlet Witch will be stepping into Doom’s old role as the Sorcerer Supreme going forward, there is no telling who will be picking up his mantle, although the path for doing so has already been paved. With Doom’s grand sacrifice in One World Under Doom #9, the former Latverian dictator left behind a last will and testament outlining exactly how his affairs are to be settled. Presumably, this will lead into the upcoming Dungeons of Doom series by writers Phillip Kennedy Johnson and Benjamin Percy and artists Carlos Magno, Robert Gill, Justin Mason, and Georges Jeanty, set to arrive in January.
