Peter Crouch says there’s no limit to Arsenal’s ambitions this season – and they can show why on Sunday
Already flying high aafter their North London derby demolition of Spurs last week, Arsenal dismissed Bayern Munich in midweek in style and underlined their credentials as potentials champions both in Europe and the Premier League. Chelsea weren’t too shabby either as they took down Barcelona with Brazilian teenager Estevao outshining Lamine Yamal in a 3-0 victory.
Now, the top two in the Premier League return to domestic action against one another on Sunday afternoon in what should be a cracking contest with Chelsea v Arsenal at Stamford Bridge – and Peter Crouch cannot wait!
The big man nailed his 9/1 Arsenal v Spurs Bet Builder last week and has had his say on both sides for Sunday’s clash in this week’s punt – and remember, any player bets are covered by the wonderful Super Sub, where if your selection goes off, your bet will roll on.

A few people have said to me they think that Chelsea will be Arsenal’s biggest challengers this season. This game will show us if they can live up to those predictions.
Considering the injuries they’ve had – Cole Palmer’s a big miss, Liam Delap’s been out, they’ve had a lot of changes at the back as well – and the way they’ve had to change things around, they’re doing well to be in second in the league. They’ve not conceded in their last three in the league either and beat Barcelona in midweek, which is a very impressive result.
For me, Pedro Neto’s been their best player recently. He’s the one you can hang your hat on. He’ll create something when you need it. The young Brazilian Estevao will be on everyone’s lips too after his performance in Europe this week, and the team in general is so young and exciting with all their attacking threats.
Though they’re second going into this game, it’s still probably too soon for a title challenge. They could have a title challenge in them this season, but I wouldn’t be betting on them winning it because it’s hard to see Chelsea being consistent enough to go all the way.
Lots of people also think Arsenal have the title in the bag already, but things can change quickly. They’re certainly my favourites, and I think they will win it in the end, but it’s not sewn up – Liverpool this season show you how unpredictable things can be.
On Sunday, Chelsea are more than capable of getting a result, and then the gap is three points. And then you’ll have people saying “Oh look, Arsenal throwing it away again”. Mikel Arteta’s long enough in the game to know that nothing’s decided this early in the season, there’s a very long way to go.
The result against Munich underlines how good a side Arsenal are now. I was covering the PSG-Spurs game during the week, and Paris are a top team, they’re European champions and are full of quality – that’s the level I see Arsenal at now.
They have bought so well, they’ve got depth, they’re defensively sound and they don’t have any weak areas. The mentality of the squad looks strong. There’s really no limit on what they can do this season. It’s tough to win domestically and in Europe but they can do it.
The only thing holding them back is the fact they haven’t done it before under Arteta. They won the cup, but have never won the league or Champions League. That could be the only stumbling block – when it gets to towards that time when things are on the line, the crowd gets nervy, the players haven’t the experience of winning those big prizes, and all those questions marks might emerge.
But I believe they have winners in that dressing room that can overcome that and take them to that next level.
Arsenal to win
Winning on Sunday would be another step in that direction and I’ll go for Arsenal to nick it.
I’d fancy Chelsea to score as they have the players to cause problems, but Arsenal 2-1 seems the likeliest result to me.
They’re just so full of confidence at the moment. Obviously, Chelsea have put together a good run of results too, but Arsenal look too solid to me. You just can’t see them losing games. It’s an Arsenal win for me in what should be a good game.
Eberechi Eze to score
Noni Madueke came off the bench and scored against Munich and I’d fancy him against his old team this week too, but Eberechi Eze was at a different level against Spurs and I’ll take him to continue scoring on Sunday.
Liam Delap to have 1+ shots on target
Liam Delap’s got back to fitness and got a goal as well in Europe this week. He’s another part of this exciting group of young forwards Chelsea have put together, this week will have boosted his confidence and he can get at least one shot on target against Arsenal.
Enzo Fernandez to commit 1+ fouls
Chelsea have been playing with a more workmanlike midfield with Cole Palmer out and Enzo Fernandez has been pushed further forward with the depth they have in the deeper midfield roles.
He has a foul in five of his last seven games, and the two where he didn’t get at least one he played 45 minutes or less. This is a big game too, so it’s hard to imagine him not having at least one foul in what should be a tough midfield battle.
Jurrien Timber to commit 1+ fouls
Before the Munich game, Jurrien Timber had six games in a row for Arsenal and the Netherlands with at least one foul, and has 12 fouls in his last 11 games. This should be a banker.
Arsenal to win
Eberechi Eze to score
Liam Delap to have 1+ shots on target
Enzo Fernandez to commit 1+ fouls
Jurrien Timber to commit 1+ fouls
