“Storm Éowyn” was the most-searched term of the year, according to Google’s Year in Search results.

The extratropical cyclone that hit Ireland in January caused significant damage, with record-breaking gusts reaching up to 184km/h.

“How to pronounce Éowyn” was the third-most popular “how to” search.

And in the year of a presidential election, Catherine Connolly, who became Ireland’s new President, was the most-searched-for person on Google in Ireland this year.

Catherine Connolly was also the third-most searched overall term. Other presidential hopefuls Maria Steen and Jim Gavin were, respectively, the second- and third-most searched for people. The presidential election featured on the most-searched list and in the “how to” list.

“How to spoil your vote Ireland” was the second-most searched term, while “how to register to vote in Ireland” was the fifth-most searched term.

“How to bottle feed a breastfed baby” was the most searched for “how to” of 2025.

The Ryder Cup, in which Europe was victorious, was the most searched-for sports term and the second-most-searched term overall.

Football and rugby also featured on the most-searched list. 

“Champions League” was the fifth-most-searched term overall and the second-most-searched for sports term. “Ireland v France” was the third-most-searched-for sports term and 10th-most-searched-for term overall.

In the top 10 most-searched-for recipes, “coffee” topped the list. The social-media hit “Dubai chocolate” came in second. Pornstar martini, pancakes, gooseberry jam, and cupcakes followed on the list.

Monster: The Ed Gein Story and Adolescence were the most-searched TV shows and also featured on the overall list. Irish TV shows, House of Guinness and Traitors Ireland were the third-and fourth-most searched for TV shows.

Nosferatu, 28 Years Later, and Superman all featured at the top of the most-searched movie list.

“What is listeria?” topped the “what is” list, and other trending questions asked by the Irish public were “what is 6 7?” and “what is a tariff?”. 

Top trending searches refer to queries with the highest amount of traffic over a sustained period in 2025 as compared to 2024.
