Aidan O’Mahony has stepped down as Macroom football manager after two seasons at the helm.
He informed the club of his decision on Wednesday night.
The Kerry legend was appointed as boss of the Muskerry club in December 2023 and endured a challenging period in charge.
The Rathmore native, with five All-Ireland titles and a two-time All-Star, took over from Conor Hurley after Macroom saw off Na Piarsaigh in the PIFC relegation play-off.

The team in green and white couldn’t push on though in 2024 under the guidance of O’Mahony, suffering demotion from the Division 3 league and losing all three of their championship group matches.
Macroom defeated Ilen Rovers in the relegation play-off to maintain their status. The year did end on a positive note after they claimed the Tom Creedon Cup for the first time in 27 years.
There was quite optimism that Macroom would improve in O’Mahony’s second year as manager. They did have a strong Division 4 league campaign this year, finishing third, a point off the promotion places.
Championship though is where Macroom would be judged and a one-point loss to Castletownbere in the first group outing was a hammer blow. Even though they drew with Kiskeam next day out, a loss to Muskerry rivals Uibh Laoire plunged Macroom into the relegation play-off for a third season on the trot.
Once more, the team in green and white showed their character to stay up, this time eking past Bandon.

There was an expectation that O’Mahony would stay involved with Macroom for the 2026 campaign, but in a lesser capacity.
That now isn’t the case and he has moved on.
New Macroom GAA chairman Michael Creed spoke very briefly to The Echo on Thursday afternoon regarding the exit of O’Mahony.
“We can confirm that Aidan O’Mahony has informed us that he will not be involved with Macroom for 2026. The club would like to thank Aidan for his efforts over the past two years and wish him well for the future.”
