A domestic abuse support service for communities in Offaly, Laois, Longford, Roscommon, and Westmeath will receive €10,000 in funding under the Ireland Against Racism Fund 2025.
Offaly Domestic Violence Support Service provides support for victims of domestic violence and their children at a local level and campaign for societal and legislative changes that will lead to the elimination of violence and abuse.
The services has been selected as one of 37 projects nationally to receive support as part of the National Action Plan Against Racism, which will see over €1.5 million allocated to Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs).
The fund enables non-government and community organisations to provide national and regional projects and local initiatives that combat racism and promote racial equality.
Offaly TD John Clendennen welcomed the news benefitting midland counties: “This is an important investment in our community and a recognition of the vital work being done locally to tackle racism and promote equality”.
“I want to commend the Service, the board members, the volunteers and all those involved in the Offaly Domestic Violence Support Service on their successful application.
It is recognition of the positive impact the Service has both here in Offaly and across our neighbouring counties.
“Initiatives like this help ensure that every person, regardless of background, feels safe, valued and supported. This funding will allow them to build on that work in a meaningful and impactful way,” Deputy Clendennen said.
The Offaly Domestic Violence Support Service was awarded the maximum amount available under Scheme B for its project entitled ‘Bridging the Gap – Access to Safety for Ethnic Minority Victims of Domestic Abuse’.
