Legacy sequels are at their most popular right now, with the latest arrival to our screens coming in the form of Spinal Tap II: The End Continues. The trio of Michael McKean, Christopher Guest, and Harry Shearer have reconnected with Rob Reiner to literally bring the band back together, 41 years after the genius This Is Spinal Tap. However, with such a long break comes fresh faces, with the Spinal Tap II cast introducing several exciting names from the world of comedy, with one name even teasing his upcoming Irish and British comedic crime drama exclusively to Collider.

During Aidan Kelley‘s red carpet coverage for Spinal Tap II for Collider, comedian and star Chris Addison, who plays concert promoter Simon Howler, was interviewed about his upcoming projects. After admitting he’d be “very happy to take many more acting roles,” Addison added, “The next thing you’ll see from me is a show called Tall Tales and Murder, which is a Dublin-based Irish crime caper that will be coming next year.” After Kelley asked whether this would be a more serious project for Addison, the former Thick of It star answered, “It’ll be funny. It’ll be comedy/drama. Dark comedy.”

What is ‘Tall Tales and Murder’ About?

Based on the eight-book Dublin Trilogy by Caimh McDonnell, Tall Tales and Murder is an exciting new darkly comic drama, which has already been commissioned for two six-part series. Penned by the critically acclaimed writer of Love/Hate, Stuart Carolan, alongside co-creator Addison, the show will be led by none other than Aidan Gillen, best known for his work as the deliciously detestable Lord Petyr Baelish in Game of Thrones. The series also features the likes of Black Doves‘ Ella Lily Hyland, Derry Girls star Philippa Dunne, and Packy Lee of Peaky Blinders fame in its cast. Speaking about the series and working with Carolan in a statement, Addison said, “I’m frankly giddy with delight to get to team up with the twisted and highly original mind of Stuart Carolan to create this show. We’ve taken Caimh’s wonderful novel as a jumping off point and ended up with what I like to think of as a dark and delicious screwball drama.” In another statement, David Crean, Head of Drama at RTÉ, said:

“It’s so exciting to be in production with this amazing Irish drama from Stuart Carolan and Chris Addison after a great development process. The scripts are fantastic, as is the cast. RTÉ is excited to be collaborating with such brilliant broadcast partners to bring this great series to audiences on a national and international stage. Tall Tales & Murder is part of an unprecedented slate of original Irish drama in production from RTÉ, which will deliver over 142 hours of original drama this year.”

Tall Tales of Murder doesn’t yet have a release date. You can check out Addison in Spinal Tap II: The End Continues in theaters.
