Anukalp Goswami wrote Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon (2015) and has worked extensively on Kapil Sharma’s television shows. As he gears up for his debut directorial venture, Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2, the expert writer-filmmaker spoke exclusively with Bollywood Hungama about his comic caper, his analysis of comedy films, the third part of his film and a lot more.

EXCLUSIVE: Anukalp Goswami confesses that he wrote Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 24 years ago; Govinda was his first choice: “I had hoped to direct him someday”; also shares his Hera Pheri 3 CONNECTION
You have been part of comedy shows, and you also wrote the brilliant scene in Race (2018) (featuring Johny Lever). As someone who has been in the industry and dealing with comedy, what do you think has gone wrong with our comic films nowadays?
This is my beginning in the world of cinema. So, I feel it’s better if I focus on my work. And who am I to comment on the greats of the industry? All I can say is that our filmmakers should make films from the heart and should keep the aam aadmi in mind. In our country, watching a film on the big screen is akin to a family outing. It’s a cause for celebration. Hence, it’s important that we make films that the whole family can watch together.
An interview of yours from 2015, during the release of the first part state, that you wrote Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon part 1 keeping Akshay Kumar in mind. Is that true and did you ever approach Akshay Kumar?
When I wrote the first part, I was working on a show of Govinda sir called ‘Jeeto Chappar Phaad Ke’. At that time, I used to interact with Govinda sir a lot and had hoped to direct him someday in future. But as they say, jo niyati ko manzoor hota hai, wohi hota hai. I kept working and moved on. One day, I met Kapil and it’s been 15 years since we have been together. We understand each other far better now. This is when I realized that there can’t be a better person than Kapil for this story.

The same interview also mentioned that you had scripted Hera Pheri 3 (the one which was being made in 2015). What was that film all about…could you share some details?
When Hera Pheri 3 was being written at that time, Neeraj Vora sir was its director as well as writer. I had also participated in writing the script. Its shooting had also commenced. Neeraj Vora sir knew everything about the film and its nitty-gritties. Sadly, he’s no more with us. I deeply respect that man. I learned a lot from him. Hence, I can’t talk much about him. All I can say is that it was a huge honour that I got a chance to work with Neeraj Vora sir.
Abbas-Mustan has already divulged that Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 3 is in the offing. What will that film promise? Will Kapil have more than 4 partners?
If the third part is made, Kapil sir will be there for sure. Without Kapil, we can’t think about Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon at all. It can have 4, 5 or even 6 heroines! Maybe it can also have thriller elements. However, right now, we can’t predict what will happen in the future. At present, we are focusing on Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2 and how the audience reacts to it.
