The PSNI is investigating the attempted murder of a man in his 70s in Co Armagh last night.
He was attacked in his home in Keady around 7.35pm.
Six masked men entered the living room of the house on the Clay Road and beat him, including as he lay on the floor.
One of the men ransacked the house while the attack was taking place. Accelerant was also poured over the victim and he was set alight.
The elderly man was able to break free from his attackers and run out of the burning building where he was again attacked in the yard.
The house and the man’s car were destroyed by fire.
He was able to make his way to the roadside to raise the alarm.
Detective Inspector Moffett said: “This was a terrible ordeal for this man who was subjected to a savage beating and has now lost his home.
“He remains in hospital at this time for treatment to a range of injuries.
“We have launched our investigation and we are increasing our anti-burglary patrolling, particularly in our border areas, however we do also need the public’s help to prevent these crimes and to identify the people responsible for this heinous crime.”
The public is being asked to provide any relevant footage to detectives.
