Sydney Sweeney‘s performance in a biopic on boxing legend Christy Martin is so moving that she is being tipped to win her first Oscar on the back of it.

The Hollywood beauty was cast to portray Martin, a former world champion and pioneer for women’s boxing, in a soon-to-be-released movie on her chaotic journey inside and outside the ring, which is simply titled ‘Christy’.

As well as her iconic fight career, the hard-hitting flick also tells the story of her near-death experience back in 2010, when her deranged ex-husband and manager, James Martin, stabbed her repeatedly and shot her in the torso.

And according to TMZ, a select group of people who attended a test screening for ‘Christy’ believe it may well be good enough to land Sweeney her first ever Oscar.

It is believed feedback from the test screening – which is typically held to gauge audience reaction before a movie or TV show’s release – was ‘through the roof’ after viewers were blown away by the biopic.

Sweeney, who recently faced a backlash over her controversial American Eagle ‘great jeans’ ad – has never even been nominated for an Oscar, yet ‘Christy’ is hitting our screens while she’s one of the hottest stars on the planet right now.

The movie is set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Friday, before being released in theaters on November 7.

In an exclusive interview with DailyMail.com over the summer, Martin heaped praise on the 27-year-old for fully immersing herself in the role.

Speaking a few months before they took to the streets together for the 2025 International Boxing Hall of Fame Parade in Canastona, New York, Christy described Sydney as a ‘perfectionist’.

‘She was really serious about her boxing,’ she gushed ‘And with depicting the domestic violence she wanted to make sure everything was right.’

The White Lotus and Euphoria star had to bulk up her body like never before to play Martin, working out three times a day and eating every 30 minutes to keep the weight on.

‘Literally, a Chick-fil-A sandwich every hour and a milkshake,’ she said in a recent interview with The Times. ‘It was amazing to feel like I was turning into someone else.’

Sweeney was recently at the center of fierce controversy after she starred in a viral ad for American Eagle jeans, which provoked a social media meltdown as frenzied critics compared it to ‘Nazi propaganda’ for playing on the phrase ‘good genes’ with a blonde, blue-eyed star.

The campaign caused a major stir upon its launch in July as social media users feverishly accused it of being racist and flirting with eugenics.

However, other viewers leapt to Sweeney’s defense, calling the outrage ‘unhinged’ and saying people were ‘reading too much into this.’

Before Friday’s ‘Christy’ premiere in Toronto, she publicly announced that she will not be answering any questions about the American Eagle campaign.

‘I am there to support my movie and the people involved in making it, and I’m not there to talk about jeans. The movie’s about Christy, and that’s what I’ll be there to talk about,’ Sweeney told Vanity Fair.
