Munster bounced back from their their Champions Cup opener loss to Bath in emphatic style over the weekend, hammering Gloucester 31-3 at Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Saturday.
Clayton McMillan would have been hoping for a big reaction from his side on the back of their heavy loss the previous week, while a win would also be important to bolster the province’s chances of finishing in a good position in their group.
This display was certainly a timely reminder of their quality, coming in front of a big crowd in Cork.

Andrew Trimble Apologises For Embarrassing GAA Gaffe After Munster Win

Munster continued their recent tradition of using Páirc Uí Chaoimh for some of their biggest games for this fixture, moving from their regular home at Thomond Park to Cork.
In saying that, the switch to the GAA venue did cause a bit of confusion for some.
Former Ireland international Andrew Trimble is a well versed rugby pundit, although the Ulster native is not quite as familiar with the GAA. That is something that led to an embarrassing slip of the tongue during a podcast appearance on Monday.
Taking to social media, Trimble would deliver a hilarious apology for a GAA gaffe he made while discussing the Munster win on the Second Captains podcast.
I just want to get ahead of it today. I made a couple of faux pas on a rugby podcast. I was a contributor on a Second Captain’s rugby podcast, on with Eoin, Simon, and Shane Horgan was on there as well.
We responded to the European rugby at the weekend. We were talking specifically about the Munster-Gloucester game.
I went to make a point about this game and I went to reference the venue that the game was played in. It was played in Páirc Uí Chaoimh in Cork, obviously a very well-known and famous Gaelic football ground.
I was absent minded or brainless. I called it Croke Park, embarrassingly. I know with the reaction of the other guys, there were like ‘eh Páirc Uí Chaoimh’.
I know that they were like ‘this protestant thinks that can just say any old Gaelic football ground and he’ll get away with it, it’s close enough’.
I’m not that bad. I’m not here telling you I’m a connoisseur of Irish Gaelic football grounds, but I know it’s Páirc Uí Chaoimh!
It was an embarrassing moment for me and maybe for the other guys as well.
Andrew Trimble is not someone who follows the GAA closely, but he clearly wanted to shake off the inevitable slagging that would come with him mixing up Páirc Uí Chaoimh and Croke Park.
Munster will be hoping that this result can get their season back on track, with the momentum they built over the opening months of the season halted somewhat in recent weeks. They travel to take on Ospreys this weekend, followed by inter-pro clashes with Leinster and Ulster over the festive period.
