Coronation Street fans are worried that Todd Grimshaw might be written out of the show in a tragic murder plot twist.

Earlier this year, Todd embarked on a romantic relationship with newcomer Theo Silverton (James Cartwright). However, the narrative has taken a dark turn in recent months as the soap explores domestic abuse within a same-sex relationship.

The abuse has even escalated to physical violence on several occasions, with a frightened Todd resorting to covert surveillance equipment in their flat to record his partner’s behaviour.

This week, however, the soap broadcast a special episode that was shown through various recording devices including Todd’s hidden camera, CCTV footage, dashcam recordings, video doorbell captures and police body-worn cameras.

During the distressing episode, things intensified between Todd and Theo when Todd tried to defend himself by pushing Theo, who ended up crashing into a coffee table and lying motionless, reports the Daily Star.

The police arrived and Todd was taken to the station while Theo was rushed to hospital. Despite the circumstances, Todd chose to remain silent about the truth, insisting it was just an accident, while Theo was treated as the victim in a shocking twist. The police even handed him leaflets on domestic violence.

Things took a darker turn later when Theo discovered the surveillance equipment Todd had installed. And in Tuesday’s episode (December 16) Theo continued to manipulate and gaslight Todd, despite the latter insisting he wanted to leave him.

The duo received a visit from George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley) and Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins) to discuss the previous evening’s incident, but Theo portrayed their altercation as entirely accidental, with Todd backing up his version of events.

Theo then sank to fresh depths by doctoring the footage of their scuffle, manipulating it to suggest Todd was entirely to blame.

With Theo’s campaign of intimidation set to escalate, viewers are increasingly convinced it will culminate in Todd’s tragic demise. On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, one viewer commented: “Theo’s going to kill Todd isn’t he?”.

Another fan responded: “I thought that, like Chantelle in EastEnders.” A third supporter added: “Oh not Todd! I’ll be so devastated if he kills him.” A further comment read: “You don’t know where they could take the storyline. It’s possible.”
