As they fought the fire, they made the sad discovery.

A garda spokesperson said gardaí were alerted to an incident of a house fire at a residential property in Mountcollins on Tuesday, December 16.

“The body of a man, aged in 60s, has been removed from the scene to University Hospital Limerick where a post mortem will take place which will determine the course of the garda investigation. Investigations are ongoing,” said the garda spokesperson.

No foul play is suspected. It is not known how the fire started.

One local told Limerick Live: “It’s awful news coming up to Christmas. He was a very quiet, very nice man and well-got. He lived on his own. He was a retired farmer who worked hard all his life. May he rest in peace.”
