The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) has appointed Lizzy Kent as their new Head of Women and Girls’ Football, replacing Hannah Dingley who vacated the role in the summer.
Kent, a former Wexford assistant manager and later interim manager, was part of the Republic of Ireland Under-17 coaching staff for the successful qualification campaign for the 2024 European Championships in Lithuania.
Kent also has extensive experience across other sports, including four-and-a-half years leading the Wexford Ladies Gaelic Football team, where they reached two All-Ireland finals and won a Leinster Intermediate title.
“I’m delighted to join the FAI as Head of Women and Girls’ Football. I have been involved in women’s sport all my life and have always endeavoured to be a strong advocate for women and girls’ sport,” Kent said..
“I’m really looking forward to building on the work that has already been done and working collaboratively with all stakeholders across the game from grassroots football to the League of Ireland, and across the international pathway.”
Director of Football John Martin said: “Lizzy brings the type of experience and enthusiasm that will ensure she has a positive impact from the very beginning and that, in turn, will hopefully help us to elevate standards and expectations of women and girls’ football around the country.”
The role had been vacant since the departure of Dingley in the summer to take over as head of the Manchester City academy.
Dingley had assumed the role in May 2024 after her predecessor Eileen Gleeson had assumed the role of senior international manager on a full-time basis.
