Mark Ronson is a chart-topping producer and songwriter, having worked with Amy Winehouse (“Rehab”) and Bruno Mars (“Uptown Funk). He’s a Grammy winner, claiming nine trophies so far, including Record of the Year (twice!) Ronson’s also an Oscar and Golden Globe winning, claiming Best Original Song for co-writing “Shallow” from A Star Is Born.

But it appears he missed his true calling: starting a wedding band with his stepfather, Mick Jones of classic rock band Foreigner. And Ronson hopes that Taylor Swiftcan make his dreams come true. Sorta.

While appearing on the Sept. 11 episode of The Tonight Show to promote his new book—Night People: How to be a DJ in ‘90s NYC—host Jimmy Fallon brought up how Foreigner offered to play Taylor and Travis Kelce’s wedding. The band’s Instagram made the plea shortly after Kelce proposed to the “Cruel Summer” singer.

Ronson, upon seeing his father’s pitch, threw his hat in the ring. “If you guys need a DJ, Travis? Taylor?” offered Ronson, with Fallon adding he was available “if you need a comedian.”

Mark Ronson’s Stepdad, Mick Jones

Though Ronson wasn’t joking when discussing how important it was that his dad got accepted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

In the years leading up to their induction, Ronson championed his stepfather’s legacy. In Mark’s eyes, Foreigner (with hits like “Cold as Ice,” “Hot Blooded,” “Head Games,” “Waiting for a Girl Like You,” and “I Want to Know What Love Is”) and specifically, his stepdad, deserved their flowers.

“When I found out they got in, I was just, I guess, because it was my stepdad, he’s just done so much for me, he’s such a huge influence,” Ronson told Fallon. “I was so much more excited when they got in than any other award or anything I ever got. I actually broke down and cried when I found out they got in.”

Jones married Mark Ronson’s mother, Ann, in the early 1980s. Jones wrote the band’s chart-topping hit, “I Want to Know What Love Is,” right before they tied the knot.

“I was just up late one night. I had met the person who was becoming my wife, basically, and I think I walked into the bedroom about two in the morning, and I said, ‘I’ve got this great idea.’ I had the first two chords of the intro and the title,” he told Ultimate Classic Rockin 2013.

He then told Ann the title. “She looked at me and said, “What do you mean you want to know what love is? We’re about to get married!” [Laughs] “Don’t you know what love is?” So that was funny

Foreigner’s Journey to the Hall of Fame

Foreigner formed in 1976, with guitarist Mick Jones, vocalist Lou Gramm, bassist Ed Gagliardi, drummer Dennis Elliott, keyboardist Al Greenwood and multi-instrumentalist Ian McDonald. In the nearly fifty years since, the band has gone through multiple lineup changes, with Jones being the only continuous original member.

Bands, singers and acts are eligible for nomination to the Rock Hall 25 years after their first commercial recording and if they demonstrate a significant impact on the evolution of rock and music.

And so, Foreigner was first eligible in 2001.

After a two-decade push from Ronson and other celebrities, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted Foreigner into the Class of 2024.
