Five trainee Gardai have been sacked for handcuffing another rookie and leaving him under a running shower – in what has been described as ‘a prank that got out of hand’.
The Irish Mirror understands the incident occurred in the Garda Training College in Templemore, Co Tipperary, over the summer.
It’s alleged that the victim of the ‘prank’ only emerged from the shower after another trainee discovered him handcuffed in the shower and managed to uncuff him and let him out.
The Irish Mirror also understands that prior to the alleged handcuffing and shower incident, the trainee’s mattress was also allegedly placed on top of a wardrobe.
Referring to the shower incident, sources previously said: “It was a prank, but then things got out of hand.”

The five rookies were initially suspended, but the Irish Mirror can now reveal all five were sacked this week.
A Garda spokesman said: “A small number of Garda trainees are no longer involved in the training programme.
“An Garda Siochana has no further comment.”
