Paris is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. I have to admit that I love it there, but seeing Emily back in Paris, I wonder if she really is going to be okay there. Rome Emily was different and I really was seeing that part of her and loving it. I loved that she trusted in her life there. Emily In Paris Season 5, Episode 5 brings us back to Paris, but we’re missing Rome.

Her life in Paris feels meh, but she tells Mindy that she’s okay being back – she gets to spend time with her. That’s something that she’s happy about. After all, it’s been awhile since they’ve been single together.

Only Mindy is not single. She’s lying to you Emily. She’s hiding stuff.

I have a feeling that everything is about to change.

YOUR OWN APARTMENT

There is not a part of me that doesn’t feel bad for Sylvie, but also I have to remember that she and her husband set their relationship up this way. They’ve always allowed each other to have other people in their marriage, but Laurant definitely crosses a line with having one at Sylvies and in her bed.

Her return from Rome is early, yes. But he should have never had a woman in her apartment and definitely not in Sylvie’s clothes.

It only gets worse. Sylvie has every reason to be upset, as the next day she finds a contact case and gives it to Laurent. He then proposes a threesome with his girlfriend. Men sometimes have audacity. Well, a lot of audacity. He definitely does.

Sylvie is seeing her worth and that she knows what he means to her now. The issue is that when people change, it doesn’t mean that everyone will. Laurent hasn’t – he’s still hurt by Rome and Sylvie with Giancarlo.

BONJOUR, BITCH!

Back in Paris, the team heads back into the office and one person that sets things off automatically is Geneive. Julian reprimands her for leaving a mess. I had to laugh when she acted like she’s been so busy that she couldn’t keep up. It’s like girl, we all know you can’t even do your job.

She has thought more about herself than anyone else. She screws everything up and, like her father, is extremely selfish.

She’s started a hat brand and the hats all say “bonjour, bitch!” and I am definitely embarrassed for her. It feels as though she is radiating desperate, but she truly is. She’s more focused on that then setting up the Zoom meeting that they have with Thomas Heatherton.

Heatherton is the CEO of a hotel chain. He is quite picky and is uptight. The idea that they’ve had and that his company had signed off – he wants pivoted on. Emily chimes in with a different idea – that they have actual stores from around neighborhoods in Paris come in. The people that really make up Paris.

Emily and the team head into Sylvie’s office to talk about Genevieve. They all know she’s a nepo baby and she needs to go. But Sylvie admits that it’s not easy, she’s there and its complicated. Genevieve is just like her Dad – causing issues for Sylvie wherever she goes.

THE CHEF WHISPERER

Gabriel and Emily really haven’t seen each other since she’s been back, but Sylvie wants her to go and talk to Gabriel.

Emilie can’t avoid talking to Gabriel forever. Even though Emily knows that they  haven’t talked in a while, I believe she knows that they aren’t going to be able to walk away from each other forever.

Emily may think that talking to Gabriel may not be the best idea, but I think we all know she’s the only person he really listens to. Gabriel and Antoine are arguing over changes to the menu. Sylvie tells her that even if he doesn’t call you a friend right now, he’s still a client so go.

Antoine and Gabriel are fighting when Emily arrives. Gabriel is surprised to see her. With him and Antoine fighting, she’s trying to find a balance. Antoine doesn’t want to hear about plant based cooking. He likes the menu as is, and believes that they need to stick with that. Antoine tells him that if he wants to change it – then he’ll find a new chef.

I believe that Antoine doesn’t like that he is being challenged. When he’s challenged, he fights back (as anyone does). Gabriel doesn’t care about Antoine’s threats, as they are comical to him. He knows that he can get another job.

I don’t believe that Antoine thinks that anyone will leave him. He has delusions of grandeur. It is not to say that he’s not a successful man. He just needs to learn to talk to others and really work with them. Emily may be a go between, but she can not be the go between forever. These men need to grow up.

Gabriel is surprised to know that Emily is back for good. Whatever happens between them, we’ll have to wait and see. Her being back in Paris will change her – and I am kinda scared of that for her.

THE CRAZY HORSE

Mindy is at the Crazy Horse, performing again. I am so happy for her that she’s doing just that, because we know that performing is her life. Knowing that she’s getting to do that, but also that Emily is there makes me happy. Besties supporting besties.

It’s the lies that make me mad and as usual, lying is what Mindy and Alfie are doing. Alfie sneaks off, texts Mindy, and then she lies to Emily and says that she needs to stay late. They are both lying to Emily and if you have to lie this much, you should know what you are doing is wrong.

The two agree to take Emily to dinner the next night and tell her what is going on with them. Alfie tells her that Emily will be happy for them.

She may have been, but no one is going to be happy with this many lies being told.

CAUSING MORE ISSUES

Genevieve is combative and she’s really bad at being an assistant. She is argumentative ont eh phone when Emily walks in and Emily reminds her to transfer that call to Sylvie.

Turns out that Genevieve didn’t get Heatherton’s chef a visa. While Heatherton is angry, Emily suggests Gabriel and Heatherton says book him. Sylvie reminds her this could backfire and Antoine and Gabriel could be pushed further apart,

I think that different points of view are great, but these men are never going to be happy. Instead they are going to be combative and they are going to always find issue. Emily should listen to Sylvie, because she does understand French men better.

If there is anyone who can talk Gabriel into doing things, it is Emily. She pulls the angle that he can do his updated menu, and that this will stick it to Antoine and make him jealous. Heatherton is richer than Antoine and owns rocketships. I had to laugh when Gabriel asked if he really did and Emily says, “he announces a new business venture, he goes into space for 11 minutes and then announces it there.”

Gabriel agreeing is exciting, because you know he’s excited to try his new menu. I really am interested in Gabriel growing as a character.

HE’S BACK

I don’t know about all of you, but part of being a best friend is hating the man that would dare hurt your bestie. So Nico showing up and running into Emily? Our girl Emily handles this one so correctly.

Nico stops Emily, saying she came to see her. Emily automatically assumes it had to do with Muratori, but it’s not that. He’s there to talk to her and wants her to deliver a message. Emily is a girls girl – the answer to that is absolutely no. Nico ruined Eurovision for Mindy and that is unforgivable.

Emily does know how to twist the knife, telling Nico that Mindy has moved on and is doing great. There is one mistake she makes – she tells him that she’s back at the Crazy Horse. It’s a mistake because Nico shows up and Emily is definitely like nope. She tells him be gone and he tells her that he’s going to prove that he’s changed.

This whole thing leads Mindy to not being able to tell Emily what is going on because she’s not in a frame of mind to do it. I can see why it makes Alfie mad, but he’s also got to understand that at Nico showed up and she’s not in the right state of mind. If his ex showed up wouldn’t it rattle him?

But I can also get why it is that he feels threatened by the experience.  Alfie is being a dick and says to Mindy, “why don’t we just save everybody the trouble and pretend like this never happened.” Mindy tells him that she didn’t say that, but Alfie returns that with a mean answer and says, “oh well I just did.”

THE HAT BAG

The event at the Heatherton launch seems to be going well. Emily and Sylvie are doing a better job communicating than they ever have. Heatherton even mentions that he didn’t get to approve the menu, but he loves it. His entire brand is based off sustainability. Emily takes him to meet Gabriel and while this shouldn’t be a big thing, I have a feeling this is where it all starts to change.

Mindy is at the event and Julian mentions he didn’t know she was singing that night. Only she isn’t. She’s there to enjoy the night. It’s then that Julian shows her an article that Nico has left JVMA. She guesses that he was serious – he really was going to change.

Luc tells Genevieve to stop putting her hats in bags. Sylvie will have her head for this. Does Genevieve listen? No. She thinks that she’s untouchable because of her Dad. That may have been true before your Dad offered up a possible threesome to Sylvie.

Antoine is there and is enjoying the dinner. Sylvie tells him that it is Gabriel’s cooking. It’s when she sees her stepdaughters hats in influencers hands, she looses it. She tells Emily that she has to fire Genevieve. Emily was smart and dumb to say that is not part of what she is supposed to be doing. Sylvie promotes her to “vice president in charge of firing useless stepchildren.”

This is not going to be good.

JULIAN KNEW

When Emily goes to fire Genevieve, she gets reminded of the nepo baby syndrome that she has.  Genevieve doesn’t think that Sylvie would let this happen, but Emily remarks that Sylvie sent her.

And well, being hurt, the spawn of the devil tells Emily off. She tells Emily that she can’t see what is going on right under nose. It’s then when the subject of Mindy and Alfie comes up. Emily doesn’t want to believe it and I don’t blame her.

Finding the truth out from people you don’t want to hear it from is never easy. Mindy should have told her, because hearing it from Genevieve is the worst case scenario. Then hearing that Julian knew made the sting worse. The difference is Julian didn’t want to hurt Emily, but him unsure of what to say, he ushers Genevieve right out of the building.

I can totally understand how Emily feels betrayed, because I’ve had this happen to me. Mindy doesn’t know she knows when she comes to ask Emily advice about if she should talk to Nico. Emily’s response was epic – it depended on if Alfie and her were exclusive, or if it was just sex.

YACHT CHEF

Emily is walking and she sees Gabriel and Antoine. It seemed as though the two were working things out, but it turns out Antoine was just wishing him well. Gabriel is leaving Paris. Heatherton offered him a job on his yacht.

It’s strange to see Gabriel so happy to leave. Like Emily tells him – we never thought we’d see him leave Paris. He’d never thought it of her either. But you just never know what would happen and will happen. He need to go.

Gabriel leaving is not something that we thought would happen but it is for the best. His character will never grow if he stays in the same place. But I am also glad he’s going because I think that Emily needs some space to find herself. It’s just that she’s being hit with one thing after another and that is a lot for anyone to deal with.

It’s been one thing after another for Emily. I don’t know how much more she can be expected to take.
