A man is due before the courts after an incident outside a Circle K in Co Louth in which a taxi driver was assaulted, his vehicle damaged and stock was stolen from the petrol station.
Gardaí were rushed to the scene after a shop attendant at the Circle K Mellifont on North Road, in Drogheda called for help.
In footage seen by the Irish Mirror, a man is being verbally aggressive to a taxi driver, who is filming, shouting at him saying “go on you hit me” before knocking the camera out of the victim’s hand.
He picks the phone up and shouts “don’t hit me” multiple times to the aggressor, who replies “what are you going to do about it?”. A woman with the alleged attacker attempts to hold him back but he manages to hit the taxi driver again, shouting “get your anger up”.
In other CCTV footage of the incident, shared by the shopkeeper, the attacker picks up a bin and throws it on the windshield of the taxi, cracking it.
The shop attendant explains that he called Gardaí twice, before panning to the lady who he says is drinking the alcohol stolen from the store, before the man and taxi driver are shown engaging in an animated verbal back and forth and the lady runs over to them.
The man then pulls at the taxi roof sign, partly ripping it off. The exchange once again gets physical, this time with both the attacker and the victim trading blows as he attempts to defend himself. Finally the taxi driver knocks the attacker to the ground before the pair leave.
The wing mirror of the taxi and front windshield are then shown to be badly damaged, while the second wing mirror is completely smashed off. The taxi driver’s phone is also cracked.
