A man, 60s, has died following a road traffic collision in Co. Westmeath.
The two vehicle crash occurred on Royal Canal Way at Cushinstown, Killucan shortly before 2.15pm on Friday.
Following the collision, one of the drivers involved, a man in his 60s became unwell and was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later. None of the other occupants required treatment.
The scene has been examined and the local coroner has been notified. A postmortem examination will be arranged. Results of the postmortem will assist Gardaí in determining the course of the investigation.
“Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them,” a spokesperson said on Saturday evening.
“Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area at the time are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Mullingar Garda Station on (044) 938 4000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.”
