Joe Boyle and Tooreen overcame Tyrone side Éire Óg Carrickmore by 1-28 to 1-17 at the weekend to secure a place in the All-Ireland Intermediate Hurling Championship final.

The Mayo champions struggled to find their rhythm in the opening half at Breffni Park in Cavan and went in at the interval two points behind, with the scoreboard reading 0-12 to 0-10.

The second half told a very different story, as Tooreen dominated proceedings, racking up ten points while conceding just three. They sealed the victory in style when Shane Boland struck an excellent goal late on, confirming their progression to the final.

“It was a really close one – nothing in it,” Boyle said after. “Our experience probably just told in the end. We really had to work for that to get across the line.

“We’re back in Croke Park now and that should be a great occasion”.
