From political scandals and court sagas to people’s stories of achievement, resilience and – unfortunately – tragedy, here is what our Irish Independent readers were reading this year.

2025 kicked off with a series of storms, most notably Storm Éowyn. It was the worst storm to hit Ireland since Hurricane Debbie in 1961. A man in Donegal died after a tree fell on his car, and parts of the country remained without power for weeks on end. A gust of 183kmh was recorded at Mace Head Galway, knocking an 80-year-old record aside.
