An urgent recall has been issued for a popular power bank due to concerns over fire risks, with hundreds sold in the Republic of Ireland.

Belkin issued the recall, which has been highlighted by Ireland’s Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC), after identifying a potential issue with one of its power bank’s lithium cell component.

A spokesperson for the CCPC said in a release: “Belkin Limited recalls Belkin Boost Charge USB-C PD Power Bank 20K, model number BPB002.

“The portable power bank’s lithium cell component may overheat, which could pose a fire hazard to consumers.

“The brand is Belkin. The model is BPB002. The UPC codes are 745883797622, 745883806751, 745883797639, 745883806768. The model number and serial are both located on the back or underside of the product listed on the product label.”

According to Ireland’s consumer watchdog, there are approximately 827 affected products in Ireland.

The power bank was sold in a wide variety of channels and stores, outlined below:

Customers who have purchased the affected product have been advised to immediately disconnect it from any power supply or other products.
