Midsomer Murders fans were thrilled to see a familiar face in the ITV drama’s latest episode

Viewers of Midsomer Murders found themselves distracted within moments of the latest episode, Book of Dead, after recognising a well-known face in the ITV drama.

Doc Martin star Selina Cadell featured in the second instalment of series 24, portraying the character Venetia Butts. Selina is best remembered for her role as Mrs Tishell in the popular medical drama.

Fans were delighted to see Selina grace their screens once more, with many flocking to a Facebook fan page to express their excitement. One viewer gushed, “Love her as Mrs Tishell in Doc Martin. She was brilliant, so funny.”

Another commented, “She got killed again, poor Mrs Tishell.”

Whilst a third enthused, “Selina is always a joy to watch,” reports the Express.

Someone else chimed in, “Sally Tishell…love Selina Cadell.”

One admirer simply stated, “Love her in Doc Martin.”

Ahead of the latest instalments, lead actor Neil Dudgeon offered an exciting glimpse into series 24 and what viewers can anticipate next.

Speaking exclusively to Reach PLC, he revealed: “The two episodes that are going out are the first two episodes I think of series 24, so there’ll be another two episodes from that series to go out at some point.

“Very soon hopefully,” the actor confirmed, before revealing: “And then the next series, series 25, is what we shot earlier this year.”

Neil also looked back on taking over from John Nettles in 2011. When questioned about how long he plans to continue playing Barnaby, Neil candidly admitted: “I think so, I mean, I wouldn’t want to do it to the point where it’s embarrassing, and he’s just too old. I just take it a year at a time.”

Reflecting on taking over the role, he recalled: “When they first came to me, I was asked, ‘How do you feel if John leaves Midsomer Murders?’ and I said, ‘It would be fantastic, and I’d love to’.”

He admitted his initial nerves about stepping into such big shoes: “By series one, I thought I’d shoot one episode, and they’d say, ‘he’s terrible, we are not doing anymore’. After having John Nettles for 13 years, and then I come along, and it’s cancelled, that would be pretty embarrassing.”

Midsomer Murders is available to watch on ITVX.
