Everyone needs a hobby: something to keep them busy, occupied, inspired, entertained or, in an increasing amount of cases, earning. Whether it’s a result of determination, hustle culture, capitalism, or just good old-fashioned curiosity, more and more people are turning their hobbies into lucrative side hustles and even full-time jobs.

But how do you begin to turn your crochet creativity into capital, or your after-hours artwork into a moneymaker? For many, it happens organically. They start doing their thing, whatever it may be, and someone else wants in on it. Before they know it, they’ve made a sale, or set up a business, and the thing that kept them busy during a pandemic lockdown has become the thing that pays their bills.
