Limerick site out of use for more than 20 years looks set for houses

A SITE on Limerick’s southside which has been out of use for 20 years looks like it will finally see new development.

Limerick City and County Council is seeking permission to develop a new housing estate on the land, which lies in the vicinity of the Maldron Hotel in Roxboro.

Some 57 new homes are planned across three plots.

Roads to service these, plus pedestrian pathways are also in the application, which went live just before Christmas.

Fifteen three-bed terraced houses are proposed for the land.

Four two-storey four-bed terraced homes are also proposed.

And it’s projected there will be one, three-bed duplex apartment.

This will be joined by 18 more two-bed duplex apartments, one two-bed apartment.

And there are 18 one-bed apartments projected for the area.

Open space is to be provided to serve the new residents.

Two in every 10 of the new car parking spaces will be suitable for electric vehicle charging, with the remainder future-proofed to allow this.

The development will be accessed through an East-West Link road from the John Carew Link Road.

Since the development is slated to take place on land owned by the council, it will be the role of members of the metropolitan district to decide on whether the plans can go ahead or not.

It’s likely it will be up for decision at February’s metropolitan district meeting.

For now though, members of the public can take a closer look at the plans and have their say.

Between now and Monday, January 26, the plans will be on show at the council’s premises at Merchant’s Quay in the city centre, or Dooradoyle during its public opening hours.
