If you’re looking for an “edgy” medical drama with a “fairly despicable female lead”, then you’re in luck. All episodes of Nurse Jackie are now streaming for free in the UK.
According to the synopsis, the hit series centres around Jackie Peyton, a “frazzled New York emergency room nurse with an abrasive attitude and a dubious fondness for prescription meds.”
While working at Manhattan’s All Saints Hospital, Nurse Jackie (played by Edie Falco) relies on unconventional (and often illegal) methods to treat her patients. But she’s also hiding some pretty big personal secrets from both her family and colleagues.
Nurse Jackie originally ran from 2009 to 2015, airing 80 episodes over seven seasons. Now, the entire boxset is available to binge on Channel 4’s streaming service.
The show follows the tumultuous journey of Jackie’s addiction as her chaotic web of lies begins to unravel around her.

The drama was branded “phenomenal” on Reddit, and currently holds an impressive 81% score on Rotten Tomatoes from 134 reviews.
Critics praised Falco’s “pitch-perfect performance”, with The Atlantic calling it a “rare gem” which “manages to entertain, instruct, and debunk traditional stereotypes about nursing all at the same time.”

“Its episodes are only half an hour long; it’s bleak as a comedy and silly as a drama; and it’s got a fairly despicable female lead. All of which, of course, makes for fantastically entertaining TV,” wrote The Guardian.
“Falco’s name alone offers a guarantee,” noted The Independent. “But it was nonetheless a revelation to see how cleverly written, how well acted, and for that matter how stylishly directed it is.”
Collider added: “Maybe it’s simply Edie Falco’s pitch-perfect performance, or a strong, multi-faceted, impeccably realized female role crafted by writers Liz Brixius, Evan Dunsky and Linda Wallem. Either way, Nurse Jackie makes for a fascinating character study,”
