Northern Irishman Jonny Evans is set to return to Manchester United as part of interim head coach Darren Fletcher’s backroom team.

Fletcher takes the reins for Wednesday night’s Premier League clash against Burnley at Turf Moor following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim.

Several media outlets in England are reporting that 38-year-old former centre-back Evans will join his old team-mate in the dugout as the Red Devils look to get their top-four push back on track.

Evans hung his boots up at the end of last season having won three Premier League titles, the Champions League, the Club World Cup, the FA Cup and two League Cups in his two spells at Old Trafford.

After retiring, he was appointed the club’s head of loans and pathways. He left the role before Christmas, but Evans now looks set for a swift return, at least on a temporary basis, with the struggling giants beginning in earnest their hunt for a permanent successor to Amorim.
