A teenager has been charged in connection with the death of west Dublin man James Berney last summer, gardaí have said.
He had been arrested yesterday in connection with the investigation and is now due to appear before Dublin District Court, Criminal Courts of Justice (Court 2) at 10.30 am.
The man, an adult male aged in his late teens, had been detained at a Garda Station in the Dublin Metropolitan Region.
In an earlier statement gardai said they were “investigating all the circumstances” surrounding the death of a man following an incident at a residence in Foxdene Drive, Balgaddy, Co Dublin shortly after 11pm on Wednesday, June 25.
“A man, aged in his 50s, who was injured in the incident was taken to Tallaght University Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased,” gardai said.
Described as a “gentle soul, father-of-two James ‘Jake’ Berney was also a grandfather. He lived in the house with his elderly father Andrew, who is aged in his late 80s.
Mr Berney’s funeral service was held in Ballyfermot on July 11.
Neighbours said Mr Berney worked as a painter and decorator, and would often carry out decorating jobs for people in the area, some of whom described him as a “perfectionist” when it came to his work.
