BBC viewers have branded this 2024 thriller series a “masterpiece” after it was finally adapted for screens, after initially being published as a mystery crime novel series in 2019. With four books in the collection written by Holly Jackson, the series of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder tells the events of the first release within six episodes. The dark and twisty storyline follows an unsatisfied Pip (played by Emma Myers), who takes matters into her own hands after the case of a dead local schoolgirl was closed.
Although the death had taken place five years prior, Pip had a nagging feeling that there was more to the events, even though the police were left satisfied. But with locals still talking about Andie Bell being murdered by her boyfriend, Sal Singh, who then killed himself, Pip unfolded the unexpected. Viewers admitted they were “hooked” by the “twists and turns” of the storyline and praised the cast for their “excellent” portrayal.
Sharing their excitement, one praised: “An absolutely stunning story that follows the book perfectly, the acting cast was perfect and on the dot. Absolute masterpiece!”
“I watched this in two days, and I could not get enough of it. I really, really enjoyed it. The twists and turns this show took blew my mind,” said another.
As a third admitted: “This adaptation made by the BBC surprised me in a positive way. It is not easy to adapt with excellence, but this series is perfect.”
One fan echoed: “The show was honestly incredible. The acting was really good, and it was interesting. It kept me hooked. I binged it in a day.”
“A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder is absolutely amazing, and there’s so much to love about it. First off, the show brilliantly captures the tension and intrigue of the original novel, making it an edge-of-your-seat experience from start to finish,” explained a viewer.
As a sixth confessed: “I picked up A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder thinking it would be a typical teen mystery, but I was completely hooked from the first few chapters. This series totally exceeded my expectations.”
Thankfully for fans, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder will return with a new series later this year after being renewed for season two in November 2024.
At the time, creator Poppy Cogan said: “I’m delighted to be back in Little Kilton with Pip and friends for season two, and to have the opportunity to bring another of Holly’s gripping stories to the screen.”
Author Holly Jackson added: “I am BEYOND thrilled that we can continue Pip’s story and, this time, I’m writing on the show! We owe everything to the dedicated fans, and I can’t wait to reunite with my AGGGTM family!”
