Boxd Midleton – about to open(Image: )

Coffee and treat lovers in East Cork get a new option from Tuesday as a new, drive-thru cafe opens in Midleton – and it’s one that will be familiar to many Leesiders.

Boxd already have a bright yellow drive-through on the Straight Road by the Lee that always appears to be very busy. Now they are expanding to East Cork with a new location, and it’s optimised for drivers.

Boxd Midleton will be at a handy location at Knockgriffin. on the relief road just beside Midleton aggregates. They will be open 7 days a week, 7am to 7pm on weekdays, opening at 8am on the weekend. The team at Boxd say: “We are excited to bring you this location, a few more improvements to come in the next few weeks but it’s another step in the right direction for the vision we have for Boxd.

Thanks to everyone involved in this launch, huge effort by some great local companies to bring this one to life. We are looking forward to welcoming you all on Tuesday and bringing the best of Boxd to the good people of Midleton and beyond.

It’s the latest in a flurry of new openings and new plans announced in just the first couple of weeks of the new year. In Wilton, well-known publican Paul Montgomery is taking over the Wilton Bar and is on a €1 million refurbishment plan to turn it into a stylish, destination gastropub for Wilton and Bishopstown.

The big refurb is starting tomorrow (Monday) and Paul told CorkBeo that he plans to have the Wilton open for St Patrick’s Weekend, saying: “I’ve been in this business for 30 years, and Patrick’s Day is a significant time.”

There are also plans to turn an old quayside pub on the south docks into a stylish new resturant – the Port Bar was once a fave spot for sailoers, dockers and shift workers from the grain stores on Kennedy Quay – now, after being closed for nearly two decades, it is to re-open again as a cafe and bar.
