The Letterkenny Youth and Family Service say that they were shocked by a recent offer of a sizeable donation – that was later retracted due to a guarantee that the money would go “to Irish families only”.
They revealed the donation offer via social media, as they re-iterated their goal to support all of those most in need, regardless of their background.
The LYFS provide a wide range of support for children, young people and families across Donegal, and have said that they were “shocked and saddened” that a donation offer came with a guarantee that would exclude people from receiving their help, based solely on their racial background.
“We are deeply shocked and saddened that LYFS was issued with an ultimatum when being offered a sizeable financial donation — requiring that we had to guarantee it would go to Irish families only,” they said in a notice posted today.
“This directly contradicts our ethos. LYFS exists to support those most in need, with dignity and respect, regardless of race, nationality, religion, gender, age, disability, or background.”
“Discrimination has no place in our work. We will not tolerate the exclusion of any member of our community.”
