Shares of industrial and transportation companies rose after muted wholesale inflation data.

The producer price index for final demand increased by 0.2% in November, according to the Labor Department.

Philadelphia Federal Reserve President Anna Paulson signaled that interest rates could move lower later this year if inflation continues to ease and the labor market stabilizes, as current rates remain restrictive.
