With Diageo announcing another increase to the price of pints, pubs across the country will face even more cost challenges in the months ahead.
All is not lost, however, as Galway Beo reports that one Galway pub has shown the initiative to offer an amazing deal for thirsty locals and tourists.
Taylor’s Bar and Beer Garden is committed to offering value to its customers and has just launched a brand-new offer called the Westy. For less than a fiver, customers can get a 37cl pour of any draught for just €4.75. It will offer customers a more affordable way to enjoy a draught beer as the trend of customers prioritising moderation and value accelerates.
Described as a “new classic”, there’s no doubt this new offer will get folks in Galway – and beyond – talking. Posting on the Galway Westend Facebook page, they wrote: “Introducing…. The Westy: Bigger than a Half, Smaller than a Full Pint”
Galway’s Westend is getting a fresh and timely twist on draught drinks, as Taylor’s Bar & Beer Garden introduces the Westy– a 37cl pour of any draught drink for just €4.75!”
“Bigger than a half pint but smaller than a pint, the Westy offers a more affordable, flexible way to enjoy a high-quality draught in the heart of Galway city. Designed with today’s drinkers in mind, the Westy reflects a growing shift in Irish drinking culture.”

“Consumers are increasingly prioritising moderation and value, choosing options that allow them to enjoy premium products without the commitment – or cost – of a full pint. With the rising price of pints nationwide, smaller measured pours like the Westy are emerging as a smart, budget-friendly alternative that doesn’t compromise on experience or quality.
“Taylor’s Bar has long been known for its vibrant atmosphere and memorable pub experience, and the Westy serve is a natural evolution of that ethos. Ideal for those who want to enjoy a perfectly poured favourite at a lower price point, or make a night out go a little further, the Westy makes socialising in Galway more inclusive and affordable. The Westy is available now at Taylor’s Bar for €4.75 on all draught products – a new classic!”
The Vintners Association of Ireland has warned that pubs are being pushed to the limit with these price increases along with the cost of energy.
Pat Crotty, CEO of the VFI, said: “Publicans are being hit from all sides, but drink costs are the biggest burden they face. This latest price increase from Diageo will put even more pressure on pubs that are already operating on extremely tight margins. Many will be left with no option but to pass this on to customers, which helps nobody.”
