Love Island’s Maura Higgins has found herself clashing with her US Traitors co-star Michael Rapapport yet again after he took a “low blow” at Bachelorette contestant Colton Underwood at the roundtable. This series of the US Traitors has proven to be a dramatic one, mainly thanks to controversial and outspoken contestant Michael.

Since the series began in the US last week, viewers have branded the Friends star as “unlikeable” and “insufferable” over his brash approach to Traitor hunting – and this week, it appeared to get personal in the castle. At the roundtable, Michael accused reality star Colton of being a Traitor, telling him: “Nobody in this room would be better at holding a secret than you.”

Colton and the rest of his co-stars took this to be a dig at the fact that he came out as gay in 2021 after his time on The Bachelorette. “There it is,” Colton said. “You think it was fun for 29 years of my life.”

Defending himself, Michael said: “Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no. That has nothing to do with it. I think you can into this game loving the idea of being a Traitor.”

As Colton accused Michael of “insinuating” his closeted struggle, Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir added: “You can’t blame somebody for being forced into a closet for the majority of their life.” While Michael said that he was “not talking about closets”, Johnny continued: “That’s what we took it as, or what I took it as anyway.”

Michael continued to call Colton a Traitor, saying: “His behaviour is of a Traitor. his behaviour is secretive. It’s conniving, it’s chirping, it’s commiserating. It’s cowardly.”

It was at this point that Maura waded in, telling Michael: “Very low blow.” When he argued that it wasn’t, she said: “Well, you’re wrong.” Michael replied: “It wasn’t intended to be,” with Maura firing back: “Well, it was.”

Eventually, Michael apologised if Colton “took it that way”. It’s not the first time that Michael has clashed with Maura – and his other co-stars – on the show.

Last week, Maura told Michael to “maybe just stop talking” after he said the phrase “we got rid of” when referring to murdered contestants. “Why did you say, ‘we got rid of’? Does that mean you’re a Traitor?” she said.

Michael responded: “Let me tell you something, Maura. I’m as faithful as a faithful-” She then interrupted him, saying: “Why did you say ‘we’? We didn’t – the Traitors did.”

Michael is best known for playing Phoebe’s boyfriend Gary on Friends as well as roles on My Name is Earl, Justified and Atypical. He’s become a controversial figure in recent years for his political views as a pro-Israel advocate and fierce critic of New York mayor Zohran Mamdani, who he branded “a s**t stain” following his mayoral win.

Fans haven’t been impressed by the clash, with one writing on Reddit: “This roundtable is pretty ugly and mean spirited honestly.” Another said: “Michael insinuating Colton could keep secrets because he was in the closet for so long was wild. What an out of touch dumba**.”
