A new episode of the six-part series hosted by Muireann O’Connell will be released each month

O’Connell, who presents Ireland AM alongside Tommy Bowe and Alan Hughes, will be interviewing guests on their experiences with losing loved ones.

The release comes following the sale of the site to the Irish Times in 2024 after it was first established by Jay and Dymphna Coleman, siblings from Dundalk, Co Louth.

The first episode of the podcast saw O’Connell speak with radio broadcaster Colm Hayes on the loss of his wife Anne Laird-Caffrey following her six-year battle with breast cancer.

Hayes, who co-hosts Colm and Lucy in the Morning with Lucy Kennedy on Classic Hits Radio, said that while there were “some dark days and dark nights”, but the couple battled them together.

He said: “I remember one particular night at three o’clock in the morning and she was having a really, really difficult night.

“The rain was lashing; we were in a storm. And I said ‘Right, come on, let’s walk to Seapoint’ and she said ‘We can’t walk to Seapoint in the rain’.

“And I said ‘Yes we can’ and we did.

“And we sat at 3:00 in the morning, me and Anne and a guy who’d obviously taken quite a lot of something and just looked out at the sea for an hour and then walked back.

“That was that time to distract.”

In an Instagram post announcing Laird-Caffrey’s passing in September, Hayes said: “My beautiful wife Anne passed yesterday morning after living with cancer for six years.

“She was an amazing, brave woman who lived life to the very end. Her smile will never be forgotten.”

Hayes also said on the podcast that his relationship with grief has been evolving over the last few months.

“I thought the first thing I was going to do after Anne passed was sell the bed.

“The bed, not the house, the bed.

“Because we had this super king-sized bed and we had it so long the kids grew up in it as well, you know.

“And I said, ‘I can’t get back into that bed’. And now it’s a comfort.”

A new episode of the series will be released each month.
