Gardai in Louth are carrying out a number of criminal investigations into illegal hunting.

This follows the seizure of vehicles and equipment suspected to have been used in illegal hunting as part of a crackdown in recent weeks.

A number of people were intercepted as part of the operation which was carried out alongside officers from the National Parks and Wildlife Service.

Details of the operation, which included dedicated patrols in relation to illegal hunting activities, particularly in relation to illegal hare hunting, were shared by An Garda Síochána Louth on their social media.

“A number of individuals were intercepted during this operation resulting in vehicles and suspected illegal equipment being seized. As a result a number of criminal investigations are ongoing,” they stated.

They also thanked both the National Parks and Wildlife Service and local landowners for their assistance.

Members of the public and landowners are urged to report any suspected illegal hunting by contacting your local Garda Station, your local NPWS Office or dialling 999 or 112. NPWS can be contacted on WildlifeEnforcement@npws.gov.ie
