A serious safety risk has been uncovered after testing by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC).

This resulted in 5,019 De Vielle dual fan electric heaters being recalled, which were sold in dozens of shops across Ireland.

The testing found that the front grill can break and expose live parts, putting users at risk of electric shock.

The brand of the affected heater is De Vielle, with the model number, article number, and product code of DEF978005.

Meanwhile, the barcode is 5391520977992, and the batch numbers are between 61299 and 66311 inclusive, the Commission said.

The mini heaters are being recalled by McLoughlinsRS and were sold by more than 90 retailers in Ireland, including Woodie’s DIY, Homevalue, and B&Q.

Consumers are now asked by the Commission to return the heaters for a full refund.

Grainne Griffin, the CCPC’s director of communications, appealed to the consumers not to use the recalled mini heaters.

“5,000 heaters are being recalled, with consumers entitled to a full refund,” she said. “If you have one of these De Vielle heaters, do not use it.”

“Tests carried out by our product safety team have revealed a serious risk of electric shock. If you own a small white fan heater, you should check the brand and model of your heater immediately,” she added.

The CCPC tests were carried out as part of an EU-wide project, with product safety authorities in Ireland and across Europe conducting targeted investigations of a range of items, including highchairs, soothers and mini heaters.

Two other recall notices were issued earlier this year, in August and May, for other models of heaters, with 14 and 15 units sold in Ireland.

All details of the affected products are available on the Commission’s website.
