The developers at Thornton Development Group and the architects David A. Lopez and Craig J. Before any work could begin, the team had to get clearance from the City of Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety. No easy feat, given they were facing what the architects describe as one of the most stringent design review boards in the region.

“Prior to our involvement, multiple design professionals had attempted to secure approvals, each encountering the same regulatory and contextual challenges,” Lopez Architects said in a statement. “The project demanded not only design vision, but a nuanced understanding of the planning approval process itself.”
Fortunately, the firm succeeded, and Optimum MCM was born. Sitting atop a privatized promontory on just over 3/4 acres, the design-forward abode will offer seven bedrooms and nine bathrooms. Every bedroom will afford incredible valley vistas, but the primary suite will also feature an expansive balcony and dual bathrooms.

Other highlights include a den with a bar, a billiards room, a wine and cigar lounge, a theater, and a detached guest house ideal for a recording studio or staff accommodations. You’ll also find a handcrafted sauna, a custom glass-walled fitness space, and a large infinity-edge swimming pool, with the architects taking inspiration from a wellness retreat. To top it off, there’s a gated motor court and a three-car gallery-style garage for your prized rides.

Area sales over the past 24 months, including Brad Pitt’s purchase of The Killers guitarist Dave Keuning’s La Presa estate, show that “architecturally significant” homes have continued to find buyers.
