Peninsula School of Art is entering its next chapter with the launch of a new brand identity and name: PenArt. Rooted in more than 60 years of creative exploration, the refreshed name reflects the organization’s growth while staying true to its belief that creativity is for everyone.

Founded in 1965 by Chicago filmmaker and artist Madeline Tripp Tourtelot, Peninsula School of Art began as a welcoming place for creative exploration on the Door County peninsula. That original spirit, rooted in curiosity, experimentation, and community, remains at the heart of PenArt today.

“The transition to PenArt better reflects the energy and spirit of our organization,” said Adam Erickson, Executive Director of PenArt. “We’re more than a school. This is a place where people come to explore, grow, and connect through creativity.”

While the name has changed, the mission remains the same. PenArt continues to offer a wide range of art classes and workshops for all ages and experience levels, from first-time artists to experienced practitioners looking to refine their craft or explore new directions. Programs are led by practicing artists and emphasize experimentation, skill-building, and personal creative growth in a supportive environment.

The new name reflects the art center’s open and inviting spaces that are filled with all types of creative energy every day.

“You don’t need credentials to be creative,” said Erickson. “You only need curiosity and the desire to explore – and PenArt is here to support that.”
